Professor Zhang is Associate Professor of Chinese Literature and Graduate Programme Coordinator in the Department of Chinese Language and Literature. Prior to this position, he was Associate Professor (with tenure) in the U.S.EducationPh.D., University of TorontoProfessional ExperienceProfessor Zhang is currently a member of Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Macau and a Research Associate at the University of Chicago.He has reviewed books and articles which were published by various publishers, including Columbia University Press, Harvard University Press, China Publishing House 中华书局, and China Social Sciences Press 中国社会科学出版社.

Professor Zhang’s research focuses on classical Chinese literature, specifically the poetry of the Six Dynasties period (220–589) and recent developments in Sinology both in China and the Anglophone world. He is currently at work on three book projects: Cultural Memory and Poems on History in Early Medieval China (under contract with State University of New York Press), Recent Research in Sinology and Classical Chinese Literary Studies 晚近汉学与中国古代文学研究 (under contract with Beijing University Press 北京大学出版社), and The Interrelation between Poetry and History in Medieval Chinese Literature 中古文学中的诗与史 (Shanghai: Fudan University Press 复旦大学出版社, 2020).In addition to the book projects listed above, Professor Zhang has published or forthcoming articles in English and Chinese about pre-modern Chinese literature and culture in A&HCI index journals such as Early Medieval China, Journal of Chinese Literature and Culture, and Journal of Royal Asiatic Studies, in Scopus and CSSCI index journals such as Journal of Chinese Humanities, Frontiers of Literary Studies in China, and International Sinology 国际汉学. His book chapters on Six Dynasties poets and Yuan dynasty literature have been included in books published by University of California at Berkley Press, China Publishing House 中华书局, and Fudan University Press.Professor Zhang is equally dedicated to pedagogy and research and has published articles on teaching Chinese literature and culture in AsiaNetwork Exchange: A Journal for Asian Studies in the Liberal Arts and Education about Asia (an AAS journal).
